Oatmeal Whole Wheat Sourdough Bread

Ingredients

3/4 cup finely chopped oatmeal

1 cup whole wheat flour

2 cups white flour (I use bread flour)

1/4 cup honey (I use local honey)

1 tsp. salt

1 cup warm water

1/3 cup butter

1 egg

1 cup sourdough starter

2 1/4 tsp. yeast

Directions

Mix yeast, beaten egg, melted butter, honey and salt in warm water. Let sit for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes add sourdough and mix together, then add the flours and oatmeal.

Knead dough with mixer dough attachment or hands for 5 minutes. Let dough rise, covered, in a  warm place until double in size.

Shape dough into bread shape and place in large bread pan or two small bread pans and allow to rise to double size again.

Preheat oven to 350º. Set timer to 30 minutes and check bread starting then. Remove when top is medium brown. Butter top to make it tender or don’t if you like it firmer!
